Week Five brought some exciting new things this week in our CSA Share. I was excited to have some sour cherries to snack on, and boy were they tart. Made my face pucker like a baby eating a lemon. The other thing you might see below that looks a little “funky” is the Kohlrabi. Prior to this week I had never heard of Kohlrabi and when I saw this alien looking vegetable I thought it was going to open up and eat me alive like the piranha plants from Super Mario Brothers. But luckily it didn’t and proved to be a tasty root.

This week was a funny one. You know kale can look an awful lot like mustard greens. But just because they look similar, definitely doesn’t mean they taste similar and we found that out the hard way. Steve makes us green smoothies every morning, usually with spinach or kale. This week, we received what we thought was kale and threw it in the shakes. As I was driving to work the shake tasted pretty gross, but it was making my throat burn and I thought I was having an allergic reaction. I called Steve and he said his was “hot” too and we both determined that whatever it was we put in our shakes that morning it was not kale. A little research later and we determined it was mustard greens. So some words of wisdom…know your greens lol.
We’ve been traveling a lot lately so we are quickly throwing together everything here and there for meals and using our share up each week.
